First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book!
Happy Friday! I hope you’ve all had a brilliant week. The book I’ve chosen for this post is by a well known, but new to me author. It’s an adult fantasy that focuses on two characters from vastly different worlds and what happens when those worlds collide.
“They named her Livira after a weed. You couldn’t grow much in the Dust but that never stopped hungry people from trying.”
Well… I’m definitely intrigued! Ready to find out what it is…

A boy has lived his whole life trapped within a vast library, older than empires and larger than cities.
A girl has spent hers in a tiny settlement out on the Dust where nightmares stalk and no one goes.
The world has never even noticed them. That’s about to change.
Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another. A journey on which knowledge erodes certainty, and on which, though the pen may be mightier than the sword, blood will be spilled and cities burned.

Thanks, Dini! This will be a first for me too, but it sounded too good to pass up 😊

Why do I do this to myself, knowing my TBR is a gazillion miles long and visiting posts like this is just going to make it longer? lol
