Hello! I was tagged in this by one of my lovely blogger friends, but I’ve completely forgotten who it was 🤦so if it was you, let me know and I will link back to your post. I do love a good book tag and this one was different from a lot of others, so had a lot of fun thinking of books for the prompt. This tag was originally created by Daniela at Only If For a Page, on BookTube.
I love this genre but I didn’t like this book

I’m a huge lover of fantasy, but this book just didn’t hit the spot for me. It lacked in character development and I just really struggled to get invested in the story.
I rarely read this genre but I loved this book

I would say romance is probably my least read genre, but Ali Hazelwood has ensured all her future works will make their way onto my TBR. This was such a swoon worthy & fun read, with just the right amount of smut, and I can’t wait for her next book to be released.
I love this trope but I didn’t like this book

I’m a huge enemies to lovers fan, but I just couldn’t get through this book, and ended up DNF’ing it at around 30%. I ended up not loving the authors previous series either, so maybe I should have expected to not love it.
I hate this trope but I loved this book

Normally, if I see love triangles anywhere near a book, I try and stay clear, but boy am I glad I didn’t when it comes to Iron Widow. Zhao basically says fuck the patriarchy, I’m gonna make this threesome polyamorous and have the two dudes swoon over each other as much as the girl. Basically it rocked, and if you haven’t picked this book up, you 100% should.
I love this author but I didn’t like this book

Ok, so don’t shoot me! I love all things Schwab, but I really struggled to get into this book. I might be open to giving it another go, because it’s been a few years since I first tried to read it, but from what I remember, I just don’t think it was for me.
I previously disliked a book by this author but I loved this book

I didn’t dislike this authors previous series, but I did feel like the second book in the duology felt overly rushed and I struggled to get invested in the romance. On the flip side, this book is bloody amazing and I highly recommended you all pick it up asap.
I love this cover but I didn’t like this book

Dislike might be a little harsh, but I just didn’t gel with this book. I loved the mythology parts, but just struggled to get into the characters, and felt the story had really weird pacing.
I don’t like this cover but I loved this book

Considering how magical this book is, the cover really, really lets it down. If i saw this in a shop I certainly wouldn’t make the move to pick it up, and I’m just SO glad that I loved the authors duology enough to give it a try, because it’s such a brilliant read.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with any of my choices? I won’t be tagging anyone specifically, but please feel free to take part of you fancy it!

This is a fantastic tag!
I’m a little surprised about Daughter of the Moon Goddess though, I’ve heard such good things..
Thanks so much for sharing, Becky!

Thanks! I definitely feel like I’m in the majority with Daughter of the Moon Goddess, but it just missed the mark for me.

It’s always frustrating when you don’t click with a book..
Hopefully you’re having better luck with your current read. 😊

This is a fun tag! I think it’s helpful to remember that sometimes there are books out there that surprise me! While there are certain genres I don’t read regularly (like romance), sometimes I DO find one I love–and stretching myself to go outside my comfort zone is sometimes a good thing.
Also, yeah, I didn’t love Cursebreakers and I was so disappointed because I’ve really enjoyed all of Kemmerer’s contemporary romances. I haven’t picked up any of her fantasy since, but that seems to be her focus now that Cursebreakers did so well.

Absolutely agree. I’ve started reading out of my ‘comfort’ genre’s over the past few years and have found it really helps me to avoid/ get out of slumps.
I didn’t mind the first cursebreakers, but by the end of the trilogy I was just not invested at all. I haven’t read any of her contemporary romance though, so I might check that out 😀

Yeah, I thought the first Cursebreakrs was pretty good, but by the end I was…not feeling it, to put it nicely!

Completely agree, I ended up buddy reading the last book and the pair of us just spent the whole time basically slaughtering it lol

Great answers, Becky! I’m also still thinking about how disappointing Jade Fire Gold was 🥲 Sad we didn’t love it more! I’m also not a fan of this Uriah Heep cover but I’m really keen to read the book. And for Cordova’s book, are you talking about the second book to Incendiary? I still haven’t read it but now I’m sad to hear it was disappointing 😢

Thanks! Uriah Heep is such a brilliant book, and one I think you would enjoy. Yes, Illusionary. I enjoyed the book as a whole, I just felt like it was a little rushed in parts and maybe would have been better as a trilogy. I might be by myself in that opinion though, because I know a lot of people loved it 😀
