Quarter Year Crisis – Book Tag!

First off, how are we a quarter of the way through the year already? I genuinely can’t believe how fast this year is going, in fact, it’s that bad, I actually forgot it was my dads birthday the other week lol! I was tagged in this by Leslie, as an answer to one of the questions, but it looked too much fun for me not to take part myself! You should definitely go and give her blog some love because she posts some brilliant content. I don’t know the original creator but if you do let me know and I will tag them too.

How many books have you read so far?

I’m actually quite proud of this, because I’m never normally this far ahead in my reading challenge but, breaking out of my go to genre’s and trying something new has definitely meant I go through less slumps and am able to read a lot faster!

Have you already found a book you think might be a 2022 favourite?

HA, yes! And definitely more than one! The above are the real standout reads for me so far this year, and all different genres too!

If not what was your favourite book you read that wasn’t quite five-star?

I’ve had a few not quite five stars and they were all really hyped books : The Atlas Six, Gallant and In a Garden Burning Gold to name a few.

Any 1-star books / least favourite book of the year?

I’ve definitely had a couple of DNF’s, Witches Steeped in Gold being one, and I was so disappointed because it sounded amazing.

Most read genre so far?

I’m sure it will surprise no one when I say it’s fantasy, but, I’ve also read quite a few books out of my comfort zones – a few rom-com’s, as well as a contemporary heist story, so I am gradually branching out.

A book that surprised you?

Probably Portrait of a Thief. I thought I would enjoy it, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with it all. It’s so beautifully written and the characters are all amazing, if not a little broken. Any way, you should definitely get it added to your TBR’s.

A Book that’s come out in 2022 already that you want to read but haven’t yet?

I was actually really looking forward to this book, but it came at a time my TBR was a little crazy and has just sat on my shelf ever since. Hopefully I’ll pick it up before the end of the year.

One goal you made that you’re succeeding at?

I’ve actually been incredibly picky with my Netgally requests this year. it’s something I always say I’ll do, but this year I’ve actually done it, and it’s made me so less stressed and my monthly TBR’s way more reachable. It’s also given me the chance to read more backlist book’s which I’m loving.

One goal you made you need to focus on?

I’ve missed one of the books off my 12 months / 12 friends / 12 books challenge so far, so I do need to catch up with that to make sure I get them all read before the end of the year, but other than that I’m happy with my progress so far this year.

New to you Booktubers/bookstagrammer/booktokers for 2022 you recommend?

I’ve actually made a foray in to booktok this year and have followed some amazing booktokers, I just haven’t worked up the nerve to try and make friends with any of them yet lol. Some that I’ve enjoyed following are:

OldEnoughForFairytales / readwithjenn / maddiesreading

I’ve also made a few new blogger friends:

Leslie / Janette / Jordyn

I’m not going to tag anyone specifically, but please feel free to take part if you fancy it!

    • When I approached a publisher, Along with other stats the number of reviews on my book mattered. I used usbookreviews.com to get 100+ reviews. This immensely helped me get a traditional publisher. Now I am also looking to sell movie rights for my novel to a medium sized studio in Hollywood.

  1. Great post, Becky! Love Hypothesis was one of my favourites last year so I’m happy to see that you enjoyed it so much as well 😍 I can’t wait to read the other books that have made it onto your “maybe favourites” 😃 Sad to see about Witches Steeped in Gold though but I’ve seen a lot of mixed but mostly not-great reviews for that one so I don’t think I’ll be rushing to read it either. Hope you continue to have an amazing year of reading in 2022!

    • Thanks, Dini! You are the main reason I picked up the Love Hypothesis so THANK YOU because I loved it so much 😂. I’ve also got into a bit of a romance mood recently so have been checking out some of your reviews for what to read next 👀. I definitely wouldn’t rush on Witches, it had a lot of promise but was incredibly slow. Hope you have an amazing rest of 2022!

  2. Yay! So glad you did this one!!💜💜 34 is actually an awesome number!! Hopefully, you can keep up the momentum! Iron Widow is one that I really want to read! I’m considering just passing on my copy of Wiches Steeped in Gold. I’ve seen a lot of less than stellar reviews and it’s a chunky one! I’m glad you are having a great reading year so far though!!

    • Thanks! I can highly recommend Iron Widow, but it’s very, very brutal so be warned 😅. Witches was just incredibly slow & I felt that nothing really happened until the last 20% of the book 👀. Hope you have a great rest of 2022 ☺️
