Meet the Blogger – Book Tag!

It’s been a good long while since I’ve taken part in a book tag, but luckily I was tagged in the fun ‘Meet the Blogger’ tag by the lovely Kerri over at KerriMCBooknerd! Kerri is one of my favourite bloggers and a lovely member of the bookish community, so be sure to go and give her blog some love.

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who tagged you (Thank you, Kerri!)
  • Mention the creator Lauren @ Lala’s Book Reviews
  • Tag as many (or as few) people as you’d like
  • Have fun and get to know one another!

Introduction!

Introduce yourself.

Hi! I’m Becky. I work for a postal company in the UK and am also a trustee for a Children’s Charity the CWUHA. I’ve been an avid reader pretty much since I could read myself and, as well as reading, I enjoy fell walking, going to gigs and getting away on holidays whenever I can.

Something most everyone wants to know…do you have any pets?

I do! I have a cat called Boo. She’s almost 12 years old now, but still as playful as a kitten and an absolute torment to everyone at home.

What is your favourite thing to drink?

I’m kinda boring, I mainly drink water as an everyday kinda drink. My favourite fizzy drink is either lilt or coke and I am partial to a Strawberry Daiquiri when I’m out for a few cheeky drinks.

What is your favourite season?

I’m an Autumn/fall girl myself. I love seeing the leaves changing colour plus, as someone who really doesn’t do well in the heat it’s the perfect chance to still get out in the sun without melting.

Do you have any special talents?

Not particularly. I used to draw, but it’s been a long time since I drew anything, and can also sing (mainly in the shower though cause I hate singing in front of anyone lol)

Blogging!

When and why did you start your blog?

I started in 2018 which seems like it was an absolute age ago! I think I started because I had subbed to a book box and through them kind of found the bloggosphere. It was filled to the brim with people like me, who were all really supportive and lovely and I just kinda figured I would give it a go. 4 years later and I’m still here!

What is something that you wish you knew about blogging when you first started?

That it’s extremely easy to feel like you’re failing, but you aren’t. I was so desperate to get as much content out as I could, constantly reviewing books, taking part in tags and weekly meme’s, but after a very near burn out I realised that I should be focusing on content over the amount of posts I could schedule. Since then I review what and when I want, only take part in tags and meme’s when I like the prompts and, honestly, I’ve fallen back in love with it all over again.

What has been the hardest part about blogging?

Pretty much the above I guess. There’s so much pressure to review all the hottest releases, to get on all the blogger lists, to get your hands on arcs etc. If you get into blogging for these reasons, it’s incredibly easy to feel like your failing. I read blogs that review older books as much, if not more than ones who review arc’s, so my advice would be to just review what you want, there will always be someone out there who wants to read what you’re writing.

What has been the most rewarding part of blogging?

I think it was finding my place in the bookish community and, with that, finding some amazing new friends. Thanks to groups like The Write Reads and BBNYA, I found so many new lovely people to chat too, as well as a space for my posts to be seen, no matter how many followers I have.

Do you write your posts ahead of time or write them the day of posting?

I like to schedule. I find it quite stressful if I have to post on the day & it takes me a good few reads of my posts before I notice most of the spelling and grammar mistakes lol.

Reading!

Who are your top 5 favourite authors?

Oooh, this is gonna be hard:

  1. Alix E. Harrow
  2. Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  3. V.E. Schwab
  4. P. Djèlí Clark
  5. Fonda Lee

What genre do you read the most?

Fantasy, It’s not even a competition lol!

What genre surprised you by how much you love it?

Surprisingly, mainly because I would class myself as a massive wimp, I’ve read a few horror books over the past few years and have loved them. Still can’t handle horror movies, but apparently I’m fine when reading them lol.

Which popular book didn’t live up to the hype for you?

I hate to say it but, Jade Fire Gold. I buddy read this with Dinni over at DinniPandaReads, and we were both super disappointed by it.

Who are some popular authors you haven’t read?

I think the biggy for me is Madeline Miller. But I also haven’t read Erin Morgenstern, R.J. Baker or Joe Abercrombie… all of who write books I’m 99% sure I would love.

What upcoming release are you excited to read?

Silvia Moreno-Garcia has a new book out this year which sounds amazing, and also has the most beautiful cover:

Do you listen to music while reading?

No, I have the attention span of a toddler so I need a fairly quiet space whilst reading. I do sometimes put playlists on that are kind of background noise, like fire’s crackling etc.

  1. Thank you for the tag! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Totally felt the same way when I started blogging. I did a meme every day of the week and tried to review anything and everything. I quickly burned out and had to re-evaluate things. I definitely just kind of do what I want. I don’t gain as many follows and likes as I used to but that’s okay!! Scwab would be on my list too. I am pretty sure! Haha

    • You’re welcome, Leslie! Looking forward to reading your answers. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of posting every day, but I’m so much happier now I post when I want even if, like you, I don’t gain as many followers. Yay to Schwab, I don’t think I’ve read a book of hers I didn’t love 😊
