Susan and I have almost finished our buddy read of In a Garden Burning Gold and, if i’m being honest, I’m still not too sure what to make of it. It’s incredibly slow, extremely political and, even though it’s heavily character based I’m not quite as invested in them as I would like to be at 2/3rd’s through the book. On the flip side I started reading Portrait of a Thief yesterday and, if i’m being honest, might have finished it by the time this post goes life. It’s an incredibly easy read, filled with brilliant characters that burst off the pages, and Li’s writing style & storytelling makes it near impossible to put down.

This was nothing like I expected to be, but I absolutely loved it. A fun and fast fantasy novella and I really hope the author writes more in this world cause I want a deeper dive into the magic, as well as the chance to spend more time with our intriguing MC.

Leah and I are starting our Buddy read of Siren Queen soon, and this is a story I’m really excited to dive into, especially seeing as I’m able to buddy read so I have someone to scream at! I’m also going to be starting the absolute chunk that is The Blood Trials. I’ve heard a lot about this one, so I’m really hoping it will live up to the hype.
