My Favourite Found Families – Top Ten Tuesday!

Hello! This weeks TTT prompt was a trope freebie, so I decided to spotlight 10 books featuring some of my favourite found families. Found families is one of my all time favourite tropes, I just love it when a bunch of misfits gang together and, normally, end up saving the world. The below, as well as containing some of my favourite found families, are also some of my all time favourite books/series. They’re a mixture of emotional and humorous, so as well as linking to any reviews I have for the books/series, I’ve also included a quote based around the family/group from the book.

Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and you should definitely go give her blog some love.

The House in the Cerulean Sea

“But guess what?”
“What?”
“There was no treasure after all! It was a lie to get you here for your party!”
“Oh. I see. So the real treasure was the friendships we made along the way?”
“You guys are the worst,” Lucy muttered. “The literal worst.”

The Gilded Wolves

“Pure, unfettered relief spread across Hypnos’s face. “What’s going on here”—said Hypnos, his voice rising as a bizarre grin spread across his face, —“is that you care for me. We’re all friends. We’re friends going to save another friend! This is … this is amazing.” Laila wanted to hug him.”

The Bone Season

“You saved me, Nick. Sooner or later I would have lost my mind. I had to know, or I would have always felt like an outsider. You made me feel like I was part of something, part of a lot of things actually. I’ll never be able to repay you for that.”

Seven Devils

“But she was not empty, and it was not the voices of the gods she heard. It was Kyla and Clo, Rhea and Nyx, Cato and Ariadne – each of them filling some space inside her until there was no corner left unclaimed. They did not speak of duty but of justice and compassion. The devils inside her head had been replaced with mercies.”

Venators

“Ryker…” Her voice cracked as she turned to look down at the mash-up of species that had been her friends and family since crossing over. “I can’t do this with you right now. They’re in trouble. I have to go.”

Witchlands

“I hate this. Both the storm and the plan. Why does it have to be ‘we’? Why not just me?”
“Because ‘just me’ isn’t who we are,” Iseult hollered back. “I’ll always follow you, Safi, and you’ll always follow me. Threadsisters to the end.”

The Aurora Cycle

“We’re outnumbered a hundred to one. The GIA has Auri in custody. They have our Longbow locked down. But I’ve studied Terran space vessels since I was six–I know the layout of a destroyer backward. And though this pack of losers and discipline cases and sociopaths might’ve been the last picks on anyone’s mind during the Draft, turns out none of them are bad at their jobs. If I can hold this together, get us working as a team, we might even make it out of this alive…”

Night of the Dragon

“Everyone on the Island would be destroyed in the wake of the Kami’s rampage, and I couldn’t let that happen. I could not loose the family and the home I had just found.”

We Free the Stars

We Free the Stars

“We’re a zumra. We hunted the flame together, found the light in the darkness, but we were far from done, laa? Now we unleash it. We free the stars, shatter the darkness holding us captive, and return it to the world of splendour it once was.”

The Age of Darkness

“But there near the front, he spotted his friends: Anton, Jude, Ephyra, Illya and Zareen. Hector’s absence felt like a raw wound in his chest, but seeing the others faces was a balm.”

What do you think? Would any of these make your favourite found families lists? Are there any you think I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I’ve only read House on the Cerulean Sea but definitely agree with that one. My found family favourite would be The Circus Infinite. I need to read some of these on your list though.

  2. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more found family lists for this week’s TTT but I love to see it 😍 Cerulean Sea family is probably my fave but I love the Aurora squad and of course, Venators too! I’m reading WHTF now so I can’t wait to get more of the family vibes from this group and I’m hoping to finally read Gilded Wolves this year lol. Great list, Becky!

      • Ngl, it was a bit of a rough start for me with WHTF but once it clicked for me I couldn’t put it down. It was *so* good and I can’t wait to continue reading the sequel to find out what happens next 😍 Haha, I can’t wait for the next Venators book too! I hope it’s not too far away!
