I saw this over on Kerri’s blog @KerriMCBooknerd and it just looked so much fun I had to take part! Music and books are probably my two favourite ‘hobbies’ in life but I will warn you that I have a very eclectic taste in music varying from musicals to hard rock, classical to jazz, disney songs to rap… like I said eclectic! I had a lot of fun picking the songs and books for this, although some of the prompts were hard. Also linking to Katie @ Katesbookdate, who created this tag!
A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it before
A book you’ll never get sick of
I’m a huge fan of the Foo Fighters & have seen them live multiple times, These Days is just one of those songs that I never get sick of listening too & never fails to cheer me up! Rebel of the Sands is one of my go to re-read series, another that never fails to cheer me up & I just love all the adventure and romance it’s filled with.
A song that reminds you of the cringiest time in your life
A book you read that you wouldn’t like if you were to read it now
God, I’m having very cringy flashbacks to late primary school/ early high school years with this song. It was played at everyone’s birthday parties, without fail and just thinking of the dancing and the outfits has me cringing inside. I actually couldn’t think of a book I have read that I don’t think I would enjoy now. I’ve re-read a lot of the books I enjoyed as a child & still liked them, so I think I’ll have to pass on this one.
A recent song that you have on repeat
A recent favourite book
Everyone in my house is now sick of the amount of times I’ve played and, tried to, sing along to Satisfied from Hamilton. I love this musical so much, and this is one of my favourite songs. I’m sure no one will be shocked, especially if you read my extremely gushing review, when I picked The House in the Cerulean Sea for my favourite recent read. There are a few others I’ve enjoyed, but this one became an instant favourite.
A song that is literally me
A book that is me in book form
I really struggled thinking of a song AND book for this one. The opening line of The Wire pretty much sums me up “You know I’m bad at communication, it’s the hardest thing for me to do” and I do LOVE the song! I also picked Sorcery of Thorns because I would just love Elisabeth’s job, to be around books all day and have them talk to you… I really can’ think of anything better.
A weird song that you liked anyway
A unique book that stuck out to you for some reason
I don’t know if this is classed as a ‘weird song’ but it’s definitely not a massively popular one so I’ll go with that! Notes From Small Planets was not quite what I expected it to be but was such a fun read. Imagine a Lonely Planets guide except for other worlds as well as a mystery of where the author disappeared too and some hilarious footnotes from the editor.
Pick your best pump up song
A book that inspires you
Honestly, no matter where I am or what I’m doing I have to move some part of my body when Proud Mary comes on. I have so many fond memories surrounding it, including some very awful dancing on my part, but it always has me up and moving when I hear it. I’m not sure this book ‘inspired me’ but the characters in The Once and Future Witches were incredibly inspiring as a woman, strong, independent and kicking the patriarchy’s ass, I couldn’t help but wish I had the strength these characters do.
Your best relaxing song
A book you’d curl up with on a rainy day
Man this song never fails to chill me out, I love Leon Bridges voice, it’s just so relaxing to listen too. TBH I would curl up with the Winternight Trilogy any day, but it’s the perfect pick for a rainy/wintry day when you just want something to loose yourself in.
A guilty pleasure song
A light, trashy read you can’t help but love
I told you I had eclectic taste! I love Riverdance, and have my Nan to thank for that. The dancing is incredibly impressive, but it’s the music that makes it for me and I have the whole soundtrack on my phone. I could have chosen pretty much any Jill Mansell book for this prompt, but Rumour Has It is a favourite of mine, and I just love the plot and characters.
A throwback song you look back on fondly
A book you read and loved when you were young
Supermassive Black Hole takes me back to my University days and going for drives with my housemates in summer. It was on every single playlist we had, and we would all scream the lyrics at the tops of our voices! I loved all Roald Dahl books when I was younger, but Fantastic Mr Fox was definitely a favourite of mine.
I wont tag anyone specifically in this, but if you would like to take part please do (and link back to me so I can find some new favourite songs/books).
