I received this book to read and review as part of the BBNYA 2020 competition and/or the BBNYA tours organised by the @The_WriteReads tours team. All opinions are my own, unbiased and honest.
About the Author.

Blake Arthur Peel has been coming up with stories ever since he was a kid. He inflicted his scribblings on family members and friends throughout his youth, always drawing maps in the back of notebooks and daydreaming when he probably should have been paying attention. It wasn’t until he was out of college that he finally decided to get serious about pursuing his career as a fantasy author.
His favorite stories have always been about good conquering evil, about fantastic worlds and wondrous magic systems. The works that have most inspired him are The Lord of the Rings, The Dragonlance Chronicles, The Riftwar Saga, The Stormlight Archive, and The Wheel of Time, among many others. Blake was born and raised in Hemet, California. Nowadays, he lives in Tennessee with his wife and two sons.

About the Book.

The barrier between worlds is broken. Only he knows the truth…
Magic has protected Tarsynium for a thousand years, shielding its people from being ravaged by bloodthirsty demons. When a young ranger’s apprentice named Owyn Lund discovers that the Arc of Radiance has been breached, he tries to warn anybody who will listen.
But legends aren’t supposed to be real.
When a village is mysteriously destroyed, rangers, mages, and rebels all point the finger, blaming each other for the demons’ brutality. However, Zara Dennel, a mage’s ward, has heard Owyn’s tale—and she’s inclined to believe him.
Together, they must prove that friendship is greater than intolerance, unity is more important than division, and that even the most powerful magic can sometimes not be enough.
Failure means the end of all things. A second—and lasting—Doom.
Experience the beginning of a thrilling Epic Fantasy series suitable for all ages. It’s perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir, Sarah J. Maas, and Brandon Sanderson.
My Review.
First off, can I just talk about how much I love this cover! I’m a sucker for an illustrated cover, and this one is just so beautiful. I was so happy when I was allocated the full book of ‘Rangers Oath’ to read for BBNYA. I had read the 10k extract and was desperate to get my hands on the full book. Blake Arthur Peel writes such relatable characters and brings an intriguing and magic filled world to life.
Owyn Lund is an apprentice to the Ranger’s legendary warriors who have protected the land of Tarsynium for generations. On his way back from a job Owyn and Elias his trainer come across a disturbing scene, a glade filled with murdered deer, and as Owyn and Elias search the area for any signs of the culprit Owyn catches a glimpse of a fearful looking creature. Elias Is quick to inform him it was a trick of his mind and Owyn wants to believe him, because what he saw looked suspiciously like a creature from beyond the Arc of Radiance, and Owyn can’t believe that because that would mean the Arc is failing and Tarsynium is in danger. Zara Dennel is a trainee Mage, and a star pupil at the academy. Still she is shocked when the Arch-magister requests her to come on a journey to look into mysterious deaths at a village. When Zara hears Owyns story she instantly believes him and the pair set off on a journey that will break boundaries and change the fate of Tarsynium.
Zara and Owyn are our two main POV’s and I loved seeing the similarities and differences between the two come to light the more time we spent with them, and they spent together. They are both incredibly resilient and head strong… I mean not everyone would go off into the Forest searching for a Demon that could kill them. As well as our two MC’s the author gives us a wide breadth of side characters, some you will love and others you will most definitely not. The characters are all exceptionally well written and relatable, making it extremely easy for us as the reader to crawl into the story and feel as though we are taking part in their journey. Zara and Owyns interactions made this book for me, and I loved the little hints at romance to come in future books.
If you like your fantasy’s adventure filled with plenty of action then look no further. Rangers Oath is incredibly fast paced and the author writing style makes it easy to fly though the pages… I may have read this in one sitting. The world he creates may not be the most unique, but he puts a spin on it and manages to make it wholly his own. I loved the little inner fighting between the mages and Rangers, and the fact that Owyn and Zara somehow overcome their differences and start to bridge that gap. We get just enough of a background for the world, without any major info dumps, so that we know where we currently stand, and why the fall of the Arc would be so catastrophic.
The authors writing style is incredibly vivid and illustrative. There is plenty of world building and I couldnt get enough of learning about Mages and Rangers and Demoms. Filled with political intrigues, plenty of plot twists and amazing characters, Rangers Oath is a must for any fantasy fan. I am so happy I read this for BBNYA and am looking forward to getting my hands on the next book in the series.
