Resolutions/hopes for 2021 – Top Ten Tuesday!

I can’t be the only one who thinks that 2020 was an absolute shit show of a year!?! Pretty much the only good thing that came out of it was me smashing my Goodreads goal, so I have super high (probably wishful thinking) expectations for 2021. I’m going to split the below into personal & blogging, because while the year personal wise was a complete wash, my blog took off and I had so much more time to spend on it… in fact it was probably one of the things that managed to keep me sane during lockdown. Do you have any new resolutions or hopes for 2021? Let me know what they are in the comments.

Slow down on requesting NG ARCS

My main issue when trying, and failing, to read backlog books last year was I requested far too many ARC’s through Netgalley. I have absolutely no self control, and if I liked the sound of a book wouldn’t hesitate to hit that request button. But I did find that I was getting a little stressed, trying to get the ARC’s read before release date etc, so my aim for this year is to only request the ARC’s that I really really want to read, and also to limit myself to so many a month… we will see how long this lasts.

Try and get through more of my backlog

This kind of fits in with the above. I’m honestly afraid count how big my backlog is between physical and kindle books. I know I have over 200 on my kindle and I think my physical may be a bit bigger. Which is why I am determined to try and get through some of them this year. I’m not going to be unrealistic and aim for a ridiculous amount but I want to aim for 1-2 per month, more if I can manage it. Some of the books have been on there for years, and some I’m incredibly excited to read, but because of my ARC backlog I just haven’t had the chance. 2021 is my year though… I can feel it.

Try and be a bit more present on Twitter

I’m great at replying to comments on my blog, pretty good at going through other peoples blogs and reading/commenting/ liking, but I am terrible at interacting on Twitter, I think because I’m quite a private person. I rarely post on there, unless it’s my blog posts, and am also terrible in group chats (I’m in quite a few.) So I’m hoping to put myself out there a little more next year, hopefully this will help me get to know more of my lovely followers, and help them get to know me a little better.

Read 75 books in 2021

I read over 100 books last year, but that was mainly thanks to being stuck in my house for the majority of it, so (fingers crossed) if lockdown and the tier system go at some point this year I more than likely wont have the same amount of time to read.

Clean up my Goodreads

My goodreads is honestly an absolute mess. It’s filled with books I probably wont read anymore, and it doesn’t even have all my physical/kindle TBR on there. SO, my aim is to have a little purge, and then scan all my owned books in and create more shelves to make it a little neater.

Go on Holiday

I feel like this is more of a wish than a resolution. I had around 4 holidays booked last year ( it was my 30th Birthday year & I had planned big) which I never got to go on, most of which have been re-booked for 2021 and I am keeping EVERYTHING crossed that I get to go on at least a few of them. They’re all planned for later in the year, June and onwards, so if the Government could get itself together and sort this whole Covid situation out I would be eternally grateful.

Spend more time with family and friends

I lost my Nan to Covid over Christmas and my Dad got really ill with it, and while at my Nan’s funeral reconnected with a lot of family that I haven’t seen in years. It made me realise that life is simply too short, and our aim is to meet up much more in the coming years, including a wake for my Nan when we can eventually have one. I’ve also just really missed visiting my friends. We normally meet up multiple times throughout the yea, and zoom chats just aren’t the same. I’ve already warned them that when we get back to normal they wont be able to get rid of me!

  1. I have similar feelings about 2020. So you aren’t alone. 🙂
I feel like I have failed Net Galley. Every time, I end up stressing myself about the books and still I lose. Also, teach me the art of organizing GoodReads. Mine is a mess too.

  2. These are all such lovely resolutions/hopes! I also want to be more active on Twitter. I’m sorry to hear about your nan and I also hope we’ll get to spend more time with our loved ones again soon.

  3. I love your goals! Although it made me feel a bit guilty about the 6 books I just requested on NetGalley when I already have 12 to be read and reviewed. I also have no self-control on there! Why is it such a struggle?! Hopefully 2021 will be the year that we get ourselves better about reading the books we have already!

  5. I’m so sorry to hear about your nan, Becky, and I hope your dad is doing okay now. I think this whole Covid situation has really made me realise how important certain relationships are in my life and how I need to work harder especially with the family relationships! I hope this year govts will get on the right track with sorting things out better! 🤞🏽I can relate to a lot of your goals especially when it comes to the backlist, cleaning up GR and requesting less on NG… Haha so basically everything? I’m gonna be working on those this year too 😊 You TOTALLY got this!

    • Thanks Dini! The end of 2020 definitely sucked but my Dad is doing a lot better now so that’s good ☺️. I think most goals that I’ve seen included some sort of cleaning up/reading more backlist books so at least I know it’s not just me whose behind 😂.
