The Anonymous Bookaholics Book Tag

I saw this over on Shelves of Starlight, which you should totally go check out because she posts some great bookish content & basically tagged anyone who had a book buying problem… so of course I had to take part!

Questions!

What do you like about buying books?

I honestly just love browsing in a bookstore. I always tend to go on my own so I have no one impatiently waiting for me to finish cause I can take a while 😂. I love seeing all the pretty covers and spines ( I’m a sucker for a pretty cover) and having a sneaky nose at the first few lines to see if I like the writing style.

How often do you buy new books?

Every month 🤷. I’m subbed to a couple of book boxes which I get monthly and there very rarely goes a month where I don’t buy at least a kindle book. I tend to add ones I want to a wishlist so I can see when they drop in price and buy them then.

Bookstore or online bookshopping? Which do you prefer?

Definitely bookstore, although it’s been a little hard atm with Covid. I think because all the books are there, it’s a lot easier to browse for new titles, and because I like a pretty cover I tend to find new books that I might not have found online.

Do you have a favourite bookshop?

Waterstones is the best bookshop in the City where I live, though there are a few charity shops that I love having a nose through. I also LOVE Forbidden Planet and always make sure to visit it whenever I’m in London.

Do you pre-order books?

I’m kind of 50/50. I do and I dont, and I can’t work out why. I think I pre-order some if the goodies are something I really want, but most of the time I think I just forget to do it.

How big is your wishlist?

HA, very big. In fact I’m not even going to attempt to count it. Every time I find a book that sounds interesting I add it, and I think it’s definitely due a bit of a purge tbh.

Which three books from your wishlist do you wish you owned right now?

Ooooh good question! Errrm maybe Skyhunter by Marue Lu, The Other Side of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner and Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse.

I’m not going to tag anyone specifically but if you would like to take part please feel free!

  1. I must admit that I recently got back into reading books so outside of the 5 books I got from my #BOTM subscription everything else is on my Kindle / Kindle Unlimited. Can you say which other subscription boxes you have? Thanks for sharing as always.

    • Of course! I’m assuming your US based? I get Owlcrate which is a YA Monthly box but there are sooo many more on your side of the pond. Off the top of my head, the bookish box, the librarian box, lit joy crate, beacon book box and the two UK ones I have are Fairyloot and Illumicrate (they ship to the states). Hope this helps ☺️

  2. Honestly, browsing in bookstores is one of the things I miss most once COVID started. I used to go with my friends to Barnes & Noble on our vacation days from school and just spend the day there browsing and reading!

I’ve been buying some books online, but it’s not the same, because like you said, I don’t have the ability to look at all the books on the shelves and discovered a book I’d never heard of before!

  3. Loved your answers, Becky! It’s interesting that you sometimes read the first few lines when you’re at a bookstore – I only really look at the blurb ☺ There is a Forbidden Planet here in Bristol which I visit occasionally.

    • Thanks Stephen! I always thinks it gives me a good idea of the authors writing style so I sometimes have a nose 👀. The nearest one to me is Manchester but they don’t have the selection the London one does book wise.
