Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag!

I found this tag over at Kayla’s WordsmithyEmily Fox does this every year to sort of give us a mid year wrap up of some her favourite and least favourite books she’s read so far. I’ve read 52 books so far this year, so narrowing down these prompts to just one book is going to be so hard!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

I had read so many mixed reviews for this one I had no idea what to expect! I adored everything about it from the characters to the setting, and it has easily become an all time favourite read of mine.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020.

This has got to be one of the most brilliant ending’s to a trilogy! It still amazes me that this is the authors debut series, and it has certainly made a fan for life.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

You know me a mythology/folklore, so I’m surprised I haven’t picked this one up yet! I’ve read some raving reviews, and just look at that cover…

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

This was a hard one! I have been a fan of Novik’s writing since I picked up Uprooted years ago and this book just sounds amazing!

Biggest disappointment.

I wouldn’t say this disappointed me, but it did fall a little flat and I wasn’t overly enamoured with the characters. I think I had just built it up a little too much in my head.

Biggest surprise.

I actually had very few expectations going into this one which is probably why it blew me away. It just felt to utterly real to me.

Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

I can easily see this book splitting reviewers but I loved the quirky writing style and brilliantly rendered characters. I hadn’t read anything by Ness before, but I have added a tonne of his books to my TBR.

Newest fictional crush.

Anyone who reads this book and doesn’t come out of it at least a little in love with Montparnasse has something wrong with them!

Newest favourite character

This book has brilliantly rendered characters coming out of its ears but my favourite has to be the British politician William Wilberforce. He’s such a sweetie and just wants to change the world for the better.

Book that made you cry.

This book had me crying ALL the tears! It was such a brilliant but heartbreaking ending to a favourite series of mine. And just when I thought I was all cried out, the author went out and did me over with the epilogue!

Book that made you happy.

Ok, so maybe this book didn’t make me ‘happy’ but I was all there for Kick ass queer Cinderella bringing down the patriarchy.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received).

I think this cover is stunning, and its even more pretty in the flesh! I have a snazzy, sprayed edges Goldsboro edition on the way and I am so excited to get my hands on it.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Need and want are two different things! I need to read all the ARC’s my crazy ass requested on Netgalley, but there are a few backlist titles I want to get to so I’ve chosen to highlight them.
