First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
Happy Friday! This week I’m spotlighting a book on my TBR. I received an ARC of this from the author after devouring the first in the series and am seriously excited to dig my teeth into this one. Set in a Icy and sparse world, filled with Demons, the first book in this series blew me away and I have high expectations for this one.
There was a wolf in the distance, a dark shroud beyond the trees, and it had been watching Apaay for five days now.
I seriously am so excited to start this one. Have any ideas what it is?
After months in captivity, Apaay managed to escape Yuki’s labyrinth with her life. But her freedom did not come without a steep cost. When the Face Stealer, the North’s most notorious demon, calls in her blood oath, Apaay must heed his demand. Debts, after all, must be repaid.
As Apaay attempts to navigate her uprooted life, something dark slithers among the snow-dusted conifers of the North. A long-dead war is unfinished, and there are those who would see it revived. In a place where misplaced loyalty could mean her death, Apaay must look inward to repair her broken soul—for if she cannot place trust in those around her, she might find enemies are closer than they appear.
Just look at that cover!! I told everyone I know to read Below after getting an ARC of it last year and I am super excited to be able to read the follow up.
