BBNYA Panellist Reveal – Leah @ Leah’s Books and Cooks

Hi everyone! I’m back to spotlight another awesome blogger were lucky to have as one of our BBNYA Panellists. Leah who blogs at Leah’s Books and Cooks is an awesome blogger and she posts some great content, both bookish and food.

To start off with tell us a little about you

I’m Leah, and I live in New York. I have two adorable, spoiled chihuahuas named Rocky and Nena, and a masters in Mental Health Counseling. I like to read YA fantasy, adult fantasy, historical fiction, psychological thrillers, and some romance. I dabbled in fencing for a few years when I was younger, and it’s one of the only sports that I not only participated in, but enjoyed thoroughly.

When did you start blogging and what made you decide to start your blog?

I started blogging in September of 2019. Due to some health issues, I wasn’t able to work, and there was only so much TV I could watch before feeling like my brain was going to turn into mush. So I decided that I could use my time more constructively if I was reading, which is something I enjoyed anyway I started my blog which combines two of my hobbies – reading and cooking.

Name a few of your favourites: Books/ Authors/ Characters/ Movies/ TV Shows etc.

My favorite books really rotate depending on what I’ve read recently. Lately, I’m loving The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna, and House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. Some of my favorite authors include Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, Talia Hibbert, and Gina L. Maxwell. I definitely have a thing for strong, smart female characters, rather than any specific ones. I don’t watch a lot of movies or TV, but I love Luther, Fauda, and New Amsterdam.

Where did you first hear about BBNYA and what made you decide to join?

I heard about BBNYA on Twitter, and I joined because I like the idea of bringing attention to and supporting indie authors.

What are some of your favourite indie/self-published books and why?

I’ve had the pleasure of reading some really awesome indie/self-published books. Gina L. Maxwell writes incredible stories, and Hook is one of my favorite romances. For fantasy, Cait Marie knocked it out of the park with The Lost Legends. V.E. Ulett writes a great historical fiction series called Code Black. And if you’re looking for sweet romances without anything graphic, Devika Fernando is the queen.
