Authors who have a fun social media presence – Top Ten Tuesday!

I absolutely love following authors on social media. Being able to interact with them, getting insights into their writing process, and them as a person I think makes reading their books all the more enjoyable. My favourite authors to follow are ones that are truthful, they don’t necessarily sugar coat the hard bits of writing/life, the ones who are hilariously funny and their tweets always brighten up my timelines, the ones who give us little spoilers into their upcoming projects and show the research they did for books. These little tidbits all help us get a little insight into the life of a writer. I follow authors on Instagram and Twitter, so for this post i’ve snapshotted some of my favourite tweets by them, writing related or not, and also linked to their twitters incase you want to give them a follow.

Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and you should definitely go give her blog some love.

Jay Kristoff

Jay is the king of humour on twitter. From his ‘Bitch, you can teleport’ rant about the Witcher to him just ripping people, I love reading his tweets & instagram posts. Especially his fan art Friday cause he gets some amazing fan art.

Alwyn Hamilton

I follow Alwyn more on Instagram than Twitter and she post regular outings, sometimes with other lovely authors. She also posts some amazing body positivity & feminist posts.

Victoria Schwab

Being one of my favourite authors, following Victoria was a given. I love the insights she shows us into her writing and life in general. She show’s the lows as well as the highs and I love the realness about her.

S.A. Chakraborty

Shannon’s interactions with her readers is a big reason as to why I follow her. She’s a great RT’er and and replies to comments all the time. That and she post lots of pictures from her research, including some amazing outfits and intriguing pottery.

Joe Abercrombie

I’ll admit. I haven’t actually read a book by Joe however! He did a small video for a Gollancz event I went to last year and I was in hysterics. I knew i had to give him a follow ( and his books are on my TBR). Another hilarious tweeter.

Tasha Suri

Tasha gives us some great insights into her writing process and upcoming works, as well as spoilers that aren’t quite spoilers but leave you wanting so much more.

Samantha Shannon

I follow Samantha on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr and she is another author who is amazing at interacting with her readers on all platforms. She’s honest about her life and writing and I love the almost normalness of her, yes she’s an author and yes she plugs her books but sooo many of her posts are just based around normal life things.

So what do you think? Do you follow any of these on social media? If not who are some of your favourite authors to follow and interact with? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Yeah, I follow most of these authors on social media. I’d also like to add that I love following Susan Dennard on social media; she definitely keeps it real about writing and publishing and peeking behind that mythical curtain on how it all works.

  2. Great list! Kristoff and Schwab also made it onto mine this week. I’m a total Kristoff fan girl and follow him on all the platforms haha I just love how he’s so appreciative of his fans and how he always interacts with them–even if it’s just to write a Lol or like a comment. Great list 😀
