First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
First week back at work done! Man did it drag though. I always find it had coming back to work after a bit of time off, but thankfully i’m back into the swing of things now. I’m choosing to focus this first lines friday on my current read. One steeped in West-African and Caribbean culture & I am loving it so far!
Yenni made her decision as her cousins slithered through the grass like log snakes, hemming the creature in from all sides. They would hate her for this.
Intrigued? Ready to find out what it is???

I mean just look at the cover guys! I’m thoroughly enjoying this one so far, with a fantastically written Heroine and a snarky shape shifting dragon you can’t help but love. Be sure to add this one to your TBR’s out Jan 21st.
