First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
This week I’ve decided to spotlight one of my favourite Sci-Fi books. Both hilarious and heartbreaking in parts, It had me on the edge of my seat and hysterically laughing.
I’m pretty much fucked.
Thats my considered opinion.
Fucked.
I mean… how could you not want to read it after this first line? Ready to find out what it is?

This book was not at all what I expected it to be and I loved it! Want to learn about growing potatoes in space? Want something that will have you crying with laughter as well as sadness? Then be sure to give this one a read!

I’ve literally had this book on my shelf for more than a year and never even opened it to the first page 😛 How did I not recognise this?! Awesome post Becky! You’ve just reminded me that I need to start reading the books on my shelf! Jen
