Vampires, Werewolves & Ghosts Oh My! – Top Ten Tuesday

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday was a Halloween freebie, so I decided to focus my post on my favourite spooky creatures. Witches, Demons, Djinn, Vampires and the like have become abundant in literary works recently, and though some aren’t quite as evil as their name would suggest (Remus I’m looking at you) they have managed to become some of my favourite characters. Whether they are mischievous, mild mannered or bad ass these characters all have a special place in my heart.

Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and you should definitely go give her blog some love.

Ghost/ Poltergeist – Peeves, Harry Potter

The King of mischief! I was majorly disappointed that Peeves didn’t make it into the films. He is by far one of my favourite Harry Potter characters. That scene where the Weasley twins set the fireworks off an he salutes them … gets me in the feels every time.

Werewolf – Remus Lupin, Harry Potter

The least likely Werewolf ever. Mild mannered and respectable Mr Lupin became a favourite character of mine when he made his first appearance in Prisoner of Azkaban. The best defence against the dark arts teacher and a truly nice man. I was devastated when he was killed off in the last book.

Vampire – Adrian, The Vampire Academy

Snarky, pretends to be dangerous but is actually a cinnamon roll. You know the type. I loved Adrian’s characters in the series, and truly felt for him when Rose kept leaving him for Dimitri… but you know Rose and Dimitri were my OTP. I was really glad when he was brought back in Bloodlines.

Demon – Morozko, The Bear and the Nightingale

The Frost Demon. The Bear and the Nightingale is possibly my favourite series ever. It was beautifully written and had me flying through the pages, and one reason for that was my main man Morozko. I loved the romance arc Arden gave him and Vasya, and I lived for his parts of the book.

Witch – Manon & the Thirteen, Throne of Glass

Kingdom of Ash broke me. I’m just gonna leave that there. When Mannon and the 13 first appeared in the series I knew I had just found some new favourite characters. Both beautiful and deadly I loved following their story and how it interwove with Aelins.

God – Hun Kame, Gods of Jade and Shadow

The Lord of the Underworld, so totally unprepared for the mortal world and the strong headed girl he would be tied to. I loved seeing him struggling with making some truly hard decisions, and need another book featuring these two.

Warlock – Corcoran Grey, Lord of Secrets

This has got to be one of the stand out debuts of the year. Great disability rep, a warlock with a snarky personality who has to save the world much to his annoyance. This book was hilarious and heartbreaking and I loved reading it from this specific warlocks perspective.

Djinn – Darayavahoush , City of Brass

I mean *swoon* right? I LOVED this character in City of Brass, and though we see less of him in Kingdom of Copper I still lived for the parts we did get. A grumpy Djinn struggling with a whole lot of inner turmoil. I enjoyed seeing him fighting, and not always winning his inner battles and the author had me in love before I could decide whether he was good or bad.

So those are some my favourite magical/mythological creatures and the characters that represent them so well! Do you love magical creatures in books? Who or what would be your favourite? Let me know in the comments.
