First Lines Friday!

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

This week I’ve chosen to focus on a standout fantasy novel I had the pleasure of reading earlier in the year. Full of Gods and monsters, with a truly strong female lead and a beautifully written romance. This book took me on a whirlwind adventure and I am slightly sad it a standalone.

Some people are born under a luck star, while others have their misfortune telegraphed by the position of the planets. Casiopea Tun, named after a constellation, was born under the most rotten star imaginable in the firmament.

Sounds good right? Are you ready to find out what it is???

Honestly this book simply blew me away. Beautifully written, full of adventure and romance and with a fantastically written heroine who is strong, stubborn and determined to leave her life as a servant in her family home. Have you picked this one up yet? It will definitely be in my top 10 of the year so be sure to check it out.
