I love a good baddy, whose not really a baddy at heart but could still kill you with his little finger. This is shown through many different types of ‘beings’ be it Vampires, Werewolves or Demons. There is something extra juicy about Demons though. Were they cursed? Did they make a deal with the devil to get demonic powers? What specifically is their power? So many questions, which make for some truly interesting characters. I’ve read three books this year that have a Demon as a character, and though none of these are the main character either good or bad, they have all stuck out to me in some way.

Silas – Sorcery of Thorns

I flew through Sorcery of Thorns when I managed to snag an ARC of it off Netgalley. It contained some beautifully written characters, but one that really stuck out to me was Nathaniel’s demonic servant Silas. His character arc was one I was wholly invested in. He seems, at times, a little like a cinnamon roll type character, however, through his interactions with Elisabeth & Nathaniel we learn that he is not in fact a ‘good guy.’

Despite his warnings that if let loose from his contract he would kill everybody in site, I, much like Elisabeth, was sure that would not be the case. He was really interestingly written, and I loved the inner battle you could feel raging inside him. He was scary, fierce and protective, and after the way Rogerson left the book I NEED MORE.

Loray – Gods of Jade and Shadow

Now this guy was a minor character, he appeared in a chapter early on in the book and then virtually vanished. It just goes to show how much of an impact he made on me that I was dying for him to make another appearance. Witty, flirty and always down for a soul selling.

Disguised in plain sight, he helps Casiopea and Hun-Kame on their journey of retribution and revenge. We don’t learn a whole lot about him as a character, however, he was written so well that I instantly loved him and desperately needed to know more about his background. I was so happy when he came into the story again, even if it was only for a short period at the end.

Numiek – Below

I recently read this book due out February 4th 2020 and let me tell you that you should all add this to your TBR instantly. Beautifully written and with some intriguing characters, one of which is Numiek the Face Stealer, a demon from Inuit mythology. He was a really interesting character and the whole way through the book I couldn’t decide whether he was trustworthy. You get to see his powers in use multiple times and he is truly powerful.

Ok! So those are my top book demons. I’ll admit that I haven’t read that many books with demons as characters but these three really stood out for me. Who is your favourite demonic character? Let me know in the comments.
