We’ve all done it right! Fallen in love with an author through one series, instantly gone out and bought every other book the have written and then… simply forgotten to read them. Some of the authors on this list I would class as favourites of mine, and yet I have only read one series of books by them, others have written series that I have enjoyed and because of that bought new books that they released.
The majority of these books have been on my TBR for faaaar too long, and you might all shout at me when you read some of the titles… I know alright! But I am determined to pick all these books up eventually… it’s just like Mr Kristoff writes “Too many books, not enough centuries.”
Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and you should definitely go give her blog some love.
The Villians series – V.E. Schwab
Ok this ones of me! But in my defence, I loved ADSOM and then simply couldn’t get into Schwabs Monsters of Verity series. I think this made me wary to pick up the Villians, but with all the amazing reviews out there now I definitely need to give these books a try.
Illuminae Trilogy – Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman
I read Aurora Rising earlier this year and absolutely loved it! I think the layout of these books is one of the things that has put me off reading them, however, literally everyone I know is telling me to read them…so they must be good right? I already have a copy of Illuminae so I will be picking this up soon.
Catwoman – Sarah J Maas
I’ve actually read and loved every single Maas book except Catwoman! Not sure why I never got round to picking it up, because I loved Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo and had high hopes for this one.
The Book of Dust – Phillip Pullman
God I loved the Northern Lights trilogy, and I’m super excited for the BBC series due out soon. I pre-ordered this pretty much as soon as it was announced… and still haven’t got round to reading it. I’m not sure if I’m wary it wont live up to the original series, but I really need to get a move on and pick this one up.
The Way of Kings – Brandon Sanderson
I devoured Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy, and his recent foray into Sci-Fi Skyward, but this series is giving me slight palpatations… its just so huge! I’m sure I will enjoy it because the reviews are awesome, I think I just need to set aside a lengthy period of time where I can (attempt) to fly though this series.
Lifel1k3 – Jay Kristoff
I’ve actually only read the Nevernight series by Kristoff, but boy are those books good. Not one to shy away from the dark side, Nevernight became one of my all time fantasy series, and I cant wait to start his first solo Sci-fi novels.
Temeraire – Naomi Novik
Uprooted is possibly one of my all time favourite books. I fell in love with Novik’s writing style, and as soon as I had finished went out and bought the first three books in her Termeraire chronicles…which are still sitting on my shelf! I will definitely be picking these up at some point, if only because it has dragons in it.
The Gilded Wolves – Roshani Chokshi
I flew through Chokshi’s Star Touched Queen series, so when I found out she was writing another book, and read the premise, I couldn’t pre-order it fast enough. I’ve been dying to read this since it was announced, and honestly don’t know why I haven’t picked it up yet, but it’s definitely getting bumped up my TBR.
The Archived – V.E.Schwab
Another of Schwab’s series that I have been dying to read. I was so glad when they re-printed these, because they were super hard to find in the UK before. They sound so magical and I cant wait to start them.
Bellman & Black – Diane Setterfield.
I read Once Upon a River last year and fell in love with Setterfield’s writing. I got swept away in the lush and magical story, and promptly went out and bought the rest of her books. I also have The Thirteenth Tale to read, but the premise of this one really drew me in so I might pick it up first.

Loved this post! 🙂 It’s such a great idea…
I highly recommend the Illuminae files (but I’m sure you’ll have heard a lot about it already, haha). I also really enjoyed the Gilded Wolves. But, what about the Star Touched Queen series? I can’t wait to read it!

Wait? You haven’t read Illuminae??? How did I miss this??? If the book fairies come for me, I’m calling for you to come help fend them off. I thought I was alone on this.

Hahaha! Nope definitely not alone… it’s got to the point now that I’m terrified of starting it in case it doesn’t live up to the hype 🙈

I’m just terrified I wont get to it before judgement reigns down on my head lol

Same! Jay’s actually doing a UK tour in September, and I’m hoping to have read at least the first book by then… but we’ll see 😆

Haha haven’t we all… my shelves are literally full to the brim with them 🤦♀️. I LOVED Once Upon a River, not normally a genre I would go for but I’m so glad u requested it 😊

Nice post!
My thing isn’t necessarily purchasing an author’s book and then forgetting, but mainly adding to my TBR and forgetting.
I’ve revamped my TBR lately to make things easier on myself, but it’ll take some upkeep.
I definitely have plenty of books on my TBR that have been there too long, so I’ll be re-evaluating whether or not to keep them pretty soon.

See this is what I need… impulse control! I literally have no control over book buying whatsoever!
Adding to my goodreads is probably a really good way of making sure I’m not broke at the end of the month 😂 definitely going to give that one a try.

Lol oh my gosh, you must be broke all the time then! Jk, but I recently rediscovered the library, so whenever I can I check out a book instead of buying. Its free!
I also don’t visit book stores often because I have no impulse control either!
I’m currently paying off my credit cards, that’s why I’m not buying a ton of books, though I have started purchasing a small number to support my indie authors.

Haha sooo true 🤦♀️. The library near me is pretty pitiful, and they’re really bad at ordering in books you request so I don’t really bother with that.
I try and stay away from bookstores as well, I’ve been on a bit of a book buying ban atm, only getting books from subscription boxes and it’s working out well so far 😊.

Yeah, I don’t bother telling my library to order books they don’t have, though I know that that is an option. But still, their database of books is pretty vast and I can at least find some of the books from my TBR there most of the time, maybe about 50%? 50% savings!
Oh, now that’s a great idea! Go you! I’ve heard there are some good used book subscription boxes that are nice and cheap.
I’m ultimately trying to get back to reading books I already own and haven’t read, but with Halloween approaching I can’t tell if that’ll happen or not.

That was definitely my intention this year! I started a reading challenge called tackling my tbr, but between arcs & blog tours I fallen out of it over the past few months!
Definitely something I should try and get back on track for, if only to try and narrow down my ridiculous tbr 😆

Yeah, me too. 😦 My main thing was a move right when I started reading books off my shelf, and then everything fell apart. I will say, all of my Animorph ones have been off my shelf, but those are so easy to get through it almost doesn’t count.
LOL I agree, I need to do the same. Maybe if I finish all my TBR for the month I’ll snatch something off my shelf. I’m actually ahead for once *knock on wood*

Tell me about it! That’s the one thing putting me off… I know I’ll have to give it a big chunk of time to get through

I have Bellman and Black on my TBR too, as well as Once Upon a River which I am dying to read so I have no idea why I still haven’t! I just read the first book in the Villains series, Vicious, yesterday and it was very good but also very different from A Darker Shade of Magic, although I can imagine that Victor and Lila would get along well! Illuminae was one that I was unsure of too, but the format is truly unique – whether you like it or not, I think you can appreciate how creative it is. I also have yet to read The Book of Dust – kind of feel like I need to reread the Northern Lights trilogy first…

I really enjoyed Once Upon a River so I hope you like it when you get round to reading it.
The layout is one of the things that initially drew me to Illuminae, it definitely sounds intriguing.
I just finished me re-read of the Norther Lights trilogy so I should probably pick up book of dust ASAP 😊

I’ve been wanting to read a VE Schwab but didn’t know where to start.

I’d personally recommend A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy. It seems to be the most loved of her work, and I can tell you it is AWESOME.
