First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
I’ve changed it up a bit this week and instead of choosing a book of my never-ending TBR, I’ve decided to focus on one of my all time favourite reads. The first time I read this book I flew through it, the writing is beautifully lyrical and I found myself undeniably invested in the character and the outcome. The multiple times I’ve read it since have not managed lessened my love.
Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley.
Are you intrigued yet? You should be… ready to find out what it is???

Have you read this book yet? If not then I seriously recommend you pick it up ASAP. A retelling loosely based around Beauty and the Beast, the authors descriptions suck you into Agieszka’s world head first. The only downside for me was that it was a standalone!

I have not but I’m reading The Written now and I love how the twist it takes on Dragon. I will have to look it up
