The last ten years have been a whirlwind! I graduated University, have had 3 job’s, travelled the world, saw one of my favourite bands in concert and so much more. There have also been some amazing books released during this period. Books that took me on adventures, made me cry and laugh, created characters I fell in love with and some I hated. This weeks Top Ten Tuesday is all about my favourite books released over the past 10 years, and we can only pick one book a year!!! This is going to be incredibly hard to narrow down, but I’m going to give it my best shot.
2009 – Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
God I loved this series! It was actually a friend from University who got me hooked and I couldnt wait to read more of Katniss and Peeta’s story.
2010 – I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
I remember going into Waterstones and buying this book, cut to me 6 hours later having flown through it. I loved the idea of the Author actually being a Historian, telling us the history of his people. It was such a fresh idea, and this quickly became a favourite series of mine.
2011 – A Dance with Dragons by George R R Martin
If only I’d have known how long I would have waited for the next book, I might have held off starting this series. That being said, I love these books. They’re so much better than the series, and I’m not so patiently waiting for the next in the series to be released.
2012 – Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
Ahhh this series was so epic! I’ll admit to not reading it in 2012 (I came to it later) but this had to have a mention. The world Maas created was so consuming, I got dragged into this series head first, and it didn’t let go easily. Other honourable mentions for this year; Cinder by Marissa Meyer & The Martian by Andy Wier.
2013 – The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
I flew through Mead’s Vampire Academy series, so when I saw she’d written a follow up I jumped at the chance to read it. The romance in these books is soooo steamy, and the characters are fantastic!
2014 – The Queen of Tearling by Erika Johansen
Probably a lesser known series but It’s definitely a favourite of mine. A really fresh story and I loved the characters. Not necessarily the ending I would have picked, but I enjoyed the rest of the series enough to not be too bothered by it.
2015 – A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E.Schwab
This was one of the hardest years to narrow down! Some of my favourite series started this year, but ADSOM is one of my all time faves. I adore Lila & Kell and think this story is just amazing! These books solidified me as a Schwab fan and I will pick up anything she writes from now on.
2016 – Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I loved Clare’s Mortal Instruments, so when I realised she was writing a series based around the Blackthorns and Emma I knew I would enjoy it. After finishing it, I think this may be my favourite of her series yet.
2017 – The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
I cant put into words how much I love this trilogy! They are some of the most beautifully written book’s I’ve ever read and Vasya fast became a favourite heroine of mine. This series really cemented my love for learning about other cultures folklore.
2018 – Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
I have been a Sanderson fan ever since I read his Mistborn trilogy a few years ago. As soon as I saw he was venturing into Sci-Fi I jumped at the chance to read it, and it did not let down.
2019 – Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kauffman
I know were only a few months into 2019, but if I had to pick a favourite read so far it would be Aurora Rising. It was freaking awesome and I blitzed through it in 8 hours (4 of which I was at work.)
God! That was one of the hardest lists to narrow down EVER!!!! I already know I’ve left some of my all time favourites off this list, but I had to be tough and these are my all time top reads. Are any of these on the top reads for the year? Let me know in the comments.
