This is a new book based in Armentrout’s bestselling Lux series. Though I have never read the original series I was intrigued by the plot and managed to grab an ARC.
Plot:
When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen…but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she’d only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head…
Armentrout writes an easily believable teenage girl in Evie and this makes her a character that is relatable, not sure where she fits in in this crazy world filled with humans and aliens living together. Shes just so sarcastic and that makes me love her all the more.
I loved the relationship between her and Luc and thought it was written excellently. There are no explicit scenes and if anything, the parts I liked the best was when they were arguing with each other or when Luc was annoying Evie.
Having never read the Lux series by Armentrout myself, I can say that you don’t have to have read the previous series for this book to make sense, but it does give some hints as to the plot of the first series so be aware of spoilers.
The main plot of the book was predictable for me, I guessed quite early on in the book what was going to happen, but this didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the novel. The characters and narrative kept me hooked until the end and I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series. A 4/5 for me and one I would recommend.
