Topic Tuesdays! Top 5 Saddest Character Deaths

There are just some character deaths that I will never get over. I’ve cried my way through so many book I’ve lost track so narrowing this down was harder than I would have liked. These are the 5 I probably cried the most over and will never recover from. Are there any on here you shed a tear or two over?

Sam/Nymeria – TOG by Sarah J Maas

I just had to include both of these, they both had massive Impacts on her life. After Sam died Aelin went on the war path, slipping deeper and deeper in Caelina the Assassin, until she gets captured and sent to the mines. With Nymerias death Aelin finally had to accept who she was, the lost Queen of Terassan, which put her on her current path. They were both such lovable characters that it broke my heart when Sarah Killed them off.

Sirius Black – Harry Potter by J K Rowling

I know that there are lots of deaths in the Harry Potter series and I don’t think I will be able to forgive Rowling for any of them, but I just feel like Sirius death had more of an impact on Harry’s life. In Harrys eye’s, Siruis was his chance to have a family again, to be loved and looked after, and after just getting him back to have him taken away so soon I felt Harry lost the last of his innocence.

Laurel/Baldair – Air Awakens series by Elise Kova

Again I had to include both of these. Laurel was the first real friend that Vhalla ever had, someone who loved her despite her Air Affinity and stuck by her through all the bad things that were happening. Vhalla was a changed person when Laurel gets killed, especially seeing as Vhalla was the target of the attack. Baldair, is a whole other kettle of fish, hes the charming younger brother who unknown to everyone had decided to step up and take the throne so that Vhalla and Aldrick could finally be together. These deaths had massive impacts on the storyline and character arc and I cried through both.

Aline – The Greatcoats series by Sebastien De Castell

I cannot put into words how much I loved this series! The only saving grace was that he didn’t kill off Falcio, Kest or Brasti but I’ll admit to shedding quite a few tears over Aline. You bond with her from the first book and are so behind her bid for the throne that her death comes as such a shock. Add that to the fact her name is literally the same as Falcio’s dead wife and you’re in for an emotional roller coaster.

Matthias – Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

I was so sure that all of the crew were going to survive the two books that I think it was more the shock of Matthias death than the emotions behind it that got to me. I really wanted a happy ending for him and Nina where they could live together and get fat eating waffles! I definitely shed a few tears over this one, more over Nina and the rest of the characters reactions.

      • Yeah same! I think I read The Assassin’s Blade after Crown of Midnight, so I knew it was coming, but it didn’t soften the blow 😂 if anything, I think it made it worse because you know the death is final, there’s no tricks there, and you already know what’s going to happen as a consequence.
