Favourite YA Series: Part 1!

Narrowing this down was incredibly hard, there are so many incredible YA series out at the minute! Please be aware this may contain some spoilers!

Sarah J Mass: Throne of Glass

This is one of my all time favourite series! Aelin is a fantastic character and I defy anyone to not find her relatable in some sense. The series starts with the protagonist, Celaena , in a prison camp. With the King of Adarlan holding a competition to find an assassin to work for the crown his son, Dorian, feels that Celaena Sardothien, once the capitals enemy, would be the perfect entrant to ensure his victory.

The story follows the competition through to Celaena being crowned champion, by no easy feat! The rest of the series follows Celaena as she becomes Assassin for the crown and country that she hates, learns secrets kept hidden about her past, and how her past drastically changes not only her future, but the future of the world.

I adore all the characters in this series, you get introduced to more as the story progresses and Sarah weaves their stories into Aelins with such ease you forget they weren’t included from the beginning.

This is an emotional series and not for the weak-hearted, it contains steamy scenes to heartbreakingly romantic and also incredibly sad. This series is an easy 5/5 for me the 6th book Tower of Dawn came out earlier last year and the final book Kingdom of Ash is due out on 23/10/18. A must have series for your shelves I can promise you wont be disappointed.

Marissa Meyer: The Lunar Chronicles

This is a fantastic series for people who like fairytale retellings! Each books is loosely based on a fairytale as you can see by the covers. Cinder- Cinderella, Scarlet- Red Riding Hood, Cress- Rapunzel and Winter- Snow White.

The Series follows Cinder a cyborg living with her stop-mother and two step-sisters. Cinder works as a mechanic which is where she meets Prince Kai, the Heir to the throne. When Cinders sister contracts the plague she is enlisted for testing. As a result we learn previously unknown things about her origin. With tension rising between earth and Luna, a colony on the moon where the occupants have special powers Cinders origins may save the earth or lead to its destruction.

My favourite character’s from the series are Captain Carswell Thorne and Iko. They’re both so sassy and incredibly funny characters which makes them so easy to fall in love with. This series is another 5/5 for me. I love that each book focuses on a different character who slowly weaves their way into the main plot.

Leigh Bardugo: Six of Crows/ Crooked Kingdom

Kaz Brekker and Inej Ghafa are my OTP and no one will change my mind! After reading Leigh’s Shadow and Bone series I was wary to pick these up. I liked Shadow but felt it paled in comparison to some other fantasy series I had read. But after reading reviews I gave in, and boy am I glad I did.

This series is set in the same world in the Grisha books, but set after and in a different location. Ketterdam is Leighs own version of Amsterdam. A city set on Canals with a seedy underbelly which is where we find The Dregs and “Dirtyhands” himself Kaz Brekker.

Kaz is promised a very large sum of money to break into the Ice court, an extremely secure prison, and kidnap Bo Yul-Bayur a scientist. To do this Kaz recruits a band of unlikely misfits to help him complete the task: Inej Ghafa- a Suli acrobat turned Dregs spy; Jesper Fahey, a sharpshooter with a penchant for gambling; Nina Zenik, a Heartrender from the Ravkan Second Army; Matthias Helvar, a former Fjerdan Drüskelle thrown into Kerch jail; and Wylan van Eck, a merchant’s son with some skill at demolition.

This series has some of my favourite characters and I love how realistic Leigh makes the life of a thief. Kaz Brekker is a flawed character with extremely loose morals, however, you cant help but feel for him when information about his past is revealed.

Another 5/5 series from me, easy reading, great characters and an almost impossible heist. What more could you want from a book!
